Jiaogulan Herb Powder
Jiaogulan is a plant that grows wild in China. The leaf is used to make medicine. Jiaogulan is sometimes referred to as “Southern Ginseng” because it grows in south-central China and is used in similar ways as ginseng. Jiaogulan is a climbing vine native to China, Japan, and Korea. As a member of the Cucurbitaceae family of plants, it is related to the watermelon, cucumber, pumpkin, and other melons and gourds. There are several health benefits attributed to drinking Jiaogulan tea, with no documented toxicity or drug interactions. However, there are a few potential side effects associated with this herb, including nausea.
Jiaogulan is used for high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, and to improve heart function. It is also used for strengthening the immune system, increasing stamina and endurance, increasing resistance to environmental stress (as an “adaptogen”), improving memory, and preventing hair loss. Other uses include treatment of poor appetite, cough, chronic bronchitis, ongoing stomach pain (chronic gastritis), pain and swelling (inflammation), ulcers, constipation, stress, gallstones, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and trouble sleeping(insomnia), backache, and pain.

These herbs are named for their ability to help the body “adapt” to stress and current life conditions. They are generally very safe herbs for men, women, and children. Adaptogenic herbs help the body build strength, endurance, vitality, energy, and immunity over time. They are meant to be taken long-term for the best results.
Suggested Use
Begin with ½ teaspoon 2x daily in food, drinks, or smoothies. Increase as desired, but usually, 1 teaspoon 2x daily is a great dose for adaptogenic herbs long-term.
Also Known As
Gynostemma pentaphyllum
Precautions: Jiaogulan might cause the immune system to become more active. This could increase the symptoms of auto-immune diseases. If you have an auto-immune condition, it’s best to avoid using Jiaogulan until more is known. Stop using Jiaogulan at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery. As always, consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, primarily if you are pregnant, nursing, or consuming any pharmaceutical medications.
